If you have lost or found a pet:

  • Contact the BCHS at (812) 988-7362 immediately.
  • Contact surrounding counties' shelters every few days.
  • Place an ad in the local newspaper.
  • Contact your neighbors to see if they have seen the lost pet or know who owns the found pet.
  • Place a picture and current description of the pet in local businesses, such as grocery stores, gas stations, veterinary clinics, etc.
  • Place flyers with the pet's picture at eye level on streets surrounding the area where the pet was lost or found.
  • Give the mail person, UPS,  & Federal Express drivers the flyer.
  • If your pet is lost, place an item of clothing with your scent on it where the pet was last seen.  Check the spot often.
  • Register the lost or found pet at www.Petfinder.org.
  • Keep an answering machine on at all times.
  • Don't give up.  The pet is a family member.
  • Get the community involved.  The more people who know of the situation, the more that can help.

The BCHS keeps a list of lost and found pets and has helped dozens of families reunite with their pet.  Please contact us as soon as your pet is missing or when you've found a pet so that we can facilitate the process.
